Say what you will about social media, but sometimes it can lead to really wonderful things, like discovering Young Hickory, a part-cafe, part-beer bar spot in North Park. I had seen an Instagram of their acai bowl, which first piqued my interest, but once I found out they brew Bird Rock Coffee Roasters, I was sold. It didn’t hurt that their logo and decor scheme are totally amazing, too.
Yesterday I ventured over there with my girlfriend for some Sunday brunch and new cafe-testing. The results? Their acai bowl was more soupy than I like, and I wish the granola was on top (instead of soggy at the bottom), but I did love how much fruit they piled on. In the end, not my favorite acai bowl but still a solid option for a light and healthy breakfast. Plus, I had a Bird Rock latte and when I have a Bird Rock latte, it’s hard for me to be grumpy. But there’s more than acai bowl and coffee; Young Hickory also serves oatmeal, breakfast sandwiches, salads, and unique paninis, like goat cheese plus fig.
But what I’m most obsessed with is the decor and vibe. There’s something about TONS of natural light and a fresh breeze from the open windows pouring in that bring me so much joy (not to mention it makes photographing interiors so much easier). There are also picnic tables in the front for a laid-back meal or beverage, as well as regular tables in the back so those working—yep, there’s Wifi—can get sh– done. And for how chilled out it is, Young Hickory still manages to nail good design, cool typography, and fresh colors (even their website is rad).
I love this place! Here’s more:

So many people keep talking about this place lately! I still haven’t been yet, but I guess I better get myself over there soon!
You need to go! Great vibe, great coffee.
Haha! We’re so spookily on the same page. I stopped in a couple of Saturdays ago. Had the power toast, which I thought was good but too pricy for what it is. Translation: I’ll probably make it myself at home!
You’re so right–same food path!
Looks like a cool place but do you think it’s a comfy place to sit and work for a couple of hours??
Definitely. My boyfriend went there just yesterday and had a productive work day!
Ooh, I need to try this place. I haven’t been able to find very many coffee shops here that rival the ones of Seattle :)
Hands down my favorite cafe to work at!
