my rituals: social media coordinator and vintage e-boutique owner charity hestead

Charity Hestead // My SoCal'd Life, a lifestyle blog

It was a chalkboard scribbled with “Surf Board” that drew me in. Charity Hestead had Instagrammed a shot of the board, and I just loved the hilarious mix of DIY dainty and raunchy Beyonce. Since Instagram is a bit of a rabbit hole, I descended deep into her feed to find a fellow San Diegan, social media maven, and vintage shop owner with a penchant for crafting, hiking, and a strong commitment to Beyonce lyrics. (Another chalkboard shot reads, “I woke up like this.”)

I asked Charity to tell me a bit about herself and her rituals, because if a girl has that kind of taste in song lyrics, she must have good taste in everything else, too. Today she talks about no-regret donut breakfasts, growing a garden in an apartment, and doing the long distance thang.

morning coffee // My SoCal'd Life, a lifestyle blog

Slow mornings: coffee first, then breakfast.
I am all about a slow, easy morning. Luckily I usually work in the evenings, so I get these pretty often! My favorite way to wake up is to lay in bed with a cup of coffee for an hour or so, reading, writing or checking my Etsy shop, and then slowly easing myself into the day by making or getting a yummy breakfast. My Instagram feed will expose how often that incudes donuts. No regrets.

gardening // My SoCal'd Life, a lifestyle blog

“Working” in my “garden.”
Living in an apartment means I have to get creative with plants, but I love adding life to my front door and all around the house. One of my favorite things to do is go thrifting for cool planters, kitchenware, etc. and then head to my neighborhood nursery and buy lovely little plants to fill them with. It’s therapeutic to get my hands in the dirt, and I love the joy it brings to my home.

DIY decorating // My SoCal'd Life, a lifestyle blog

DIY decorating.
I change the walls in my apartment weekly. I love spending a morning crafting or doing a makeover on a thrifted gem to add some flair to the apartment. From gold spray paint to craft store flowers to chalkboard contact paper, finding inexpensive ways to make our house a home always makes me feel calm and happy to be home.

sunset hikes // My SoCal'd Life, a lifestyle blog

Beach walks and sunset hikes.
Since I live in San Diego and my boyfriend lives in L.A., we love exploring our cities together when visiting each other. Since I live right by the coast, that usually turns into walks along the beach and exploring cool places like Sunset Cliffs. He lives near lots of hills and hikes, so taking hikes to watch the sunset has become a tradition when we’re in L.A. Either way, seeing new places together is one of our favorites ways to spend our days together.

There are too many things I want from her reasonably-priced vintage e-shop! Decisions, decisions.
