A few snaps from the weekend that was…
101 Dalmatians realness for Halloween. We ate pizza (in costume) at the Golden Hill Luigi’s, walked around South Park to see all the awesomely decorated houses and did a little bar-hopping (sans Teddy) in Hillcrest. We saw a lot of Maleficents, a lot of Day of the Dead-ers and a few Frida Kahlo’s. Props to the parents who dressed their kid up as Freddy Krueger and made him take a photo next to a Neighborhood Watch sign.
Saturday brunch at the new-to-me Cafe21 in Normal Heights. It’s now one of my top brunch spots in the city—great organic coffee, sizzling egg skillets and a charming patio.
The vintage flea market, which is held in North Park every few months, had a lot of lovely (overpriced) goodies, like furniture, kitchenware, clothes and jewelry. I loved this dresser not just because it had a cool pattern, but because it wasn’t like every other “shabby chic” piece that had some pastel paint slapped on haphazardly for a “vintage” effect. Not pictured was another outdoor market I went to later in the day. It was a Dia de los Muertos-themed local makers marketplace organized by the team behind Make Good. Plenty of cool and colorful goodies made by San Diego- and Tijuana-based artists, and I got a couple of great gifts for my upcoming trip back home to the East Coast.
Happy Monday, y’all!
Your costume: amazing.
I was at the vintage flea market too! :) I actually found quite a few (surprisingly) reasonably priced items and left with a $22 vintage chair, a $2 velvet pillow, an $8 1950s Jim Beam decanter, and a $4 vintage Fiestaware cup for my collection. Not too bad!
