Saturday mornings at Cafe Madeleine. Eaman and I typically work six days a week, so Saturdays are reserved for chillin’ out, maxin’ and relaxin’. For us, the most peaceful place to de-clutter our brains is this South Park cafe.
This weekend we also celebrated our friends’ wedding at the Catarmaran Resort near Mission Bay. It was our first San Diego wedding, and I consider it a milestone to have made friends within just under two years who are close enough to invite us to such an intimate celebration. (In case you’re wondering, this wedding incorporated Persian wedding elements, like the elaborate and symbolic spread known as the aght, to reflect the groom’s heritage.)
Brunch at Snooze in Hillcrest. The wait can be killer—one hour in our case—but the chilaquiles benedict and pineapple upside down pancakes were worth it. (The hash browns, on the other hand, are not worth it.) Side note: They have a pretty awesome playlist of 80’s, 90’s and early 00’s R&B with the likes of Aaliyah, Bell Biv Devoe and Lauryn Hill. Throwback brunch!
This weekend my friend, Shyema, was in town from New York and on Saturday, we hit up the Mission Beach courts for my first San Diego round of beach volleyball. I haven’t played volleyball since elementary school and am a veritable hot mess on the courts, but it was super fun nonetheless. Also, Mission Beach gets a bad rap, but it was just lovely on that hot and sunny September day.
Shyema accompanied me to Suzie’s Farm’s fourth annual autumnal equinox dinner, and it was a truly one-of-a-kind way to appreciate fall flavors, communal dining and earth’s awesome bounty. I know, I’m such a California hippie. More to come on Wednesday…
Happy Monday!
It was lovely meeting you and your friend on Saturday. Excited to follow you here!
So great meeting you, too! Enjoy exploring :)
