Our living room wall will soon be filled with paintings and photographs from our travels, but there’s a lonely space above my bedroom dresser that’s just asking for some sort of art. I teeter between something feminine versus something totally neutral (see tropical fruits print above), but I do know I want a piece that complements our white- and turquoise-colored bedroom.

A part of me just wants to paint something on my own, but I couldn’t help but fall for these seven prints. No matter the outcome, it doesn’t hurt to window shop for now, right?

1. I like that Jessica Durrant’s Pink Peacock Feather is simple with a twist. Blue feathers are so been-there-done-that; this one is fiery hot pink — my favorite color!

2. But then I started looking at Jessica’s other works and fell in love with this “Chevron Tunic” portrait, too. I generally shy away from those overly feminine prints (i.e. a Chanel perfume bottle or the red Louboutin soles) that make women think they’ve inherited Carrie Bradshaw’s life, but this one feels different. I don’t know if it’s the blue color or the dripping paint or the fact that she’s wearing winged eyeliner just like I always wear, but this is my favorite of the group.

3. There’s been a recent uptick in framing typographic prints (i.e. “For Like Ever” and “Do More of What Makes You Happy”), but more perplexing than everyone wanting the same catchphrase is the need to get one in French (“Non, je ne regrette rien”). That said, I love this Creme de la Creme print by SmileBaby Studio not for the Frenchness, but for the beautiful pairing of black and gold foil and that cute little arrow.

4. Guess what this is a picture of. Just guess. No guesses? It’s a rendering of the Mumbai metro map! How cool is that? I love this one for sheer creativity but feel like a bit of a phony given that I hail from Bangalore, not Mumbai.

5. Flamingos at the zoo are cool, but my most memorable encounter with these elegant birds was observing them from afar in the wild in Patagonia. Ooh, it gave me goosebumps. Typing “flamingo print” into an Etsy search field yields a surprisingly large number of options, but I liked the coloring of this one by Barbara Szepesi Szucs the best.

6. This Banca de Frutas by Marcelo Romero may seem like the odd print out, but it struck me as a potential candidate since Eaman and I are huge tropical fruit lovers. Hunting for lulo, grandilla and maracuya in Colombia was our activity of choice (after beach-bumming) in Cartagena. This print brings back fond memories.

7. There are a lot of prints of beautifully dressed women for sale — it’s that Carrie Bradshaw thing again — and as hypocritical as I may be, “Mad About McQueen” by Jessica Durrant (yes. again.) was too stunning to pass up. I love how the gold and every intricate detail of the dress stand out.

I have a tough decision on my hands. So tell me, which is your favorite and why?

It’s all about the peacock feather or the Mumbai metro map for me. Who knew I’d be so Jai Ho? But anyway, I love the peacock feather for the twist of hot pink on an otherwise typical image, and I’m a huge sucker for public transit art of any kind. Like, I still want to get a Bart or Muni logo t-shirt, AND one of those NYC subway line shirts (even though I never lived there).

You’ll have to show us the whole space with the print once you decide!

Thanks for the input! I love metro maps, too. We just framed an old NYC subway map belonging to my dad in the 80s, which is a nice little family heirloom. Excited to show off our place when the time comes (still need to paint a few pieces of furniture)!

That was the very first one I saw in this whole search and I love its simplicity. And color!
