my rituals: graphic designer and blogger jaymee zeller harney of jayadores

July 26, 2013

One of my favorite things about Instagram is the Newsfeed. On the one hand, it’s uncomfortable to know that your followers can track whose photos you like or comment on. On the other hand, it’s a cool way to discover interesting new people. That’s how I stumbled upon Jaymee, her excellent photography and very picturesque website and blog JayAdores. In her corner of the internet, she shares graphic design work, client mood boards and glimpses of a charming beach life.

And as I found out from poring over her blog, Jaymee lived in Honolulu for a few years, recently moved to SoCal and is a fan of the most amazing workout called TurboKick. With so much in common, I had to reach out and find out what rituals this California girl calls her own.

Name: Jaymee Zeller Harney
Age: 25
Hometown: Simi Valley, California
Current City: Redondo Beach, California
Professional Title: Freelance Graphic Designer

Coffee and acai bowls
I must start my day with coffee. There’s just something I love about the smell of fresh brew and the routine of sipping a hot cup of coffee in the morning. I also get on kicks where I eat the same thing for breakfast every single day. For the past 6 months, my food of choice has been the tasty acai bowl! I make them at home and they are quite easy (and delicious).

Getting outside
Since I started working from home last December, I have come to realize the importance of getting outside at least once a day. I tend to go a little bit stir crazy sitting behind my computer for hours at a time. A major perk of working for myself is making my own schedule! We live a quick 2-minute bike ride to the beach so I really have no excuse not to take advantage of it. It works out quite nicely that my least productive hours of the day are from 2 PM – 6 PM and my most productive hours are in the morning and late at night. My non-productive hours serve as the perfect little time slot for some outdoor adventuring.

Flea marketing
Before my husband and I moved from Hawaii to California, we purged most of our furniture and other belongings. We were excited to start fresh and slowly furnish our little 1930’s bungalow by way of thrift shops, flea markets, and Craigslist. We’ve been to the Long Beach Antique Flea Market the past 2 months and have brought home some amazing finds that we got for ridiculously good deals! I would rather buy old treasures with charm versus brand new pieces of furniture any day. I’m excited to make this a monthly ritual (and for our home to acquire some unique furnishings!).
