our rituals: becky and jesse morquecho of limelife photography

April 12, 2013

The wonderful thing about moving from a big pond like New York City to a smaller pond like San Diego is that the creative community is less spread out, more tight-knight and very intertwined. Enter: Becky and Jesse Morquecho, the San Diego- and Orange County-based husband-and-wife team behind Limelife Photography. I met Becky at a Creative Connection event and once the business cards had been swapped and I checked out their beautiful photos, I knew I’d hear their names again. Lo and behold, they snapped the engagement pictures for previous {my rituals} contributor Jessica Packard. San Diego is the smallest big city, I tell ya.

Becky and Jesse met in Africa, wed in 2009 and have been collaborating on gorgeous images ever since. (Check out their About page for more fun facts about the couple.) Let’s see what keeps these shutterbugs happy.

Fresh air
This is usually accompanied by exercise. Swimming. Hiking. (Improvised) CrossFitting. Beach cruising. Or, it’s a spontaneous “let’s get out of the office and take a stroll” with the hubby. But it revives me every single time, guaranteed. Doesn’t matter if it’s sunshine-y spring air, crisp chilly air or crazy Santa Ana windy air. It makes feel alive & ready for more. (Daily need.)

Reading business books
This sounds like work, but it’s really not. I’m a big-idea person. I can easily get caught up in the day-to-day tasks. Those drain me. But give me a motivation/encouragement/kick in the pants business book and my creativity & spirit take off. (Weekly need.)

Scuba diving
I’ve always dreamed about exploring a whole new world, and since I don’t have a magic carpet (there’s my shout out and love to Disney), scuba diving let’s me do that. I get to see things very few people have seen. There are little and not-so-little critters, beautiful kelp forests and it gives me a reason to buy & use a bunch of sweet, techy gadgets. I’d love for it to be a weekly ritual, but it’s more of a monthly need.

Junk food & latest TV series addiction
Whether it’s Downton Abbey, Glee, Arrested Development, New Girl (this list could really go on for a long time), with a Slurpee or fro-yo in hand, nothing can stop me from feeling relaxed and recharged. (Weekly need.)

Mr. & Mrs. Limelife together

Talking to God.
Every day has the potential to just get nuts on us. We can’t control it all. We don’t always like it all, either. But we have choice to make the most of everything. And for us, God is our rock, encourager and help in all the crazy times, lame times & exciting times. He helps us keep it all in perspective. The cool thing is: He is everywhere. He’s at church. He’s out in the fresh air and on our adventures. There’s always super easy access to goodness, balance & calm. (Daily need.)

Adventure.
We LOVE owning a small business. But there are times (we shoot for at least once a month), when we leave everything behind and get out of dodge. It might be a camping trip. It might be visiting friends in another city. Sometimes, it’s just staying the night at a cool hotel for a change of scenery. We’re working on saving up for another big adventure like Africa, but all the little adventures seem to keep popping up and stealing our money. (Monthly need.)

Thanks, Becky and Jesse! Have a good weekend, friends!
