my rituals: ashley fine of one fine day

April 5, 2013

Every blog has a certain purpose in my life. Some make me want to redecorate, others send me straight to the kitchen and there are those that make me question why I don’t own a leather skirt. When I need a jolt of bright and happy energy, I read Ashley Fine’s blog, One Fine Day. The blogger and personal stylist has created a charming life for herself in Hawaii, where her and her military husband (nicknamed “Flyboy” on the blog) are currently stationed. Ashley’s blog serves up tons of visual inspiration, from fashion and interior design to prints and book recommendations. This island girl’s sweet, funny and cheery — if you’re not following her on Instagram, what are you waiting for? — so let’s find out what keeps Ashley calm, cool and collected.

Seaside Sundays
Since we live in Hawaii, it’s nice to devote at least one day a week to the beach. I prefer the company of my husband, but when he’s away, an Iced Layered Caramel Macchiato and a stack of glossies seem to do the trick! It’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of the island, but the scenic view of some of our favorite beaches seem to erase all of life’s problems. Few things are as relaxing as an afternoon spent seaside when the sun hits your shoulders and your toes are tucked into the sand. It’s my happy place.

Snail mail
I love old-fashioned correspondence that requires snazzy stationery. Once a week, I make time to sit down at my desk and send a note or two to family and friends. It’s a relaxing way to stay in touch and gives me a reason to buy more note cards.

Journey to the top of the hill
We live on a steep and secluded hill, which has its problems and perks. Whenever I get done working out on my spin bike, I cool down with our dogs and we venture to the top of the hill. Tripp (a Golden Retriever) and Beesly (a Bernese Mountain Dog), look forward to this particular ritual. It’s a chance for them to sniff weeds and collect sticks; it’s also an opportune time for me to take advantage of the breezy trade winds.

Celebratory gimlets
After a long week, I look forward to mixing up my favorite gimlet—Hendrick’s Gin and San Pellegrino Limonata. It’s the best way to kick-off the weekend. Bottoms up!

Cheers to the weekend, friends!
