catching life’s little details

August 5, 2013

Blogging often means photo shoots, set-ups, props and some serious foresight. But this weekend I reminded myself that not everything has to be a well-orchestrated big idea. I decided to shift from the macro to micro — quite literally. Here’s a little look at what happens when you capture impromptu moments and get friendly with your zoom function.

These are my favorite physical traits on Teddy: a saggy neck, droopy jowls and fluffed-up chest. A hint of pink tounge doesn’t hurt.

The most monstrous heirloom tomato at the farmer’s market.

A mini giraffe painted onto the street.

Cravory’s birthday cookie. Those round sprinkles are my favorite kind, and I’ve been known to be incredibly picky about them. One time at Billy’s Bakery in New York, a conversation between me and the girl behind the counter went something like this:

Me: Can I have that chocolate cupcake with the round sprinkles?
Girl reaches for a chocolate cupcake without round sprinkles.
Me: Sorry, I actually wanted the one in the back with the round sprinkles.
Girl picks out wrong cupcake yet again.
Me: That one in the back with the round sprinkles. Can I have that one?
Girl finally selects the cupcake of my choosing.
Girl [angrily]: Do you want the sprinkles on my hand, too?

I still feel the whiplash from that one.

It’s not easy being green red.

A charming sign in Coronado that combines my love for Hawaii with my obsession to keep shoes out of the home. Can’t. Won’t. Will never.
