I’ve seen Desi McKinnon’s jewelry pieces on quite a few women since moving to San Diego. They’re understated and delicate, but eye-catching and outfit-making at the same time. Take these horseshoe earrings, for instance. I love how they’re simple enough to wear throughout the day, but the unique shape begs the question, “Where’d ya get those?” I asked someone that myself recently, and she told me it was a piece by her friend, Desi, a San Diego-based designer with a line of jewelry called Modernist.
Desi also happens to be a blogger, aroma enthusiast and kombucha brewer, too. And today she’s talking about all that and sharing her recipe for “Hindu lemonade.” Take a look:

Walking.
My husband and I adopted a chiweenie, Zeke, last year and morning walks fell on me. It’s one of the best things to happen to me. When I’m out walking him I’m in the moment. It’s all about walking and keeping my focus on walking. Wherever we end up, I’m sure to notice something that I missed before having this little 9 pounder leading the way. It’s such a great way to start my day in a state of mindfulness.
Concoctions.
I’m always stirring up something. I love to make afternoon drinks for myself that include, but are not limited to: spa water, natural soda, Hindu lemonade, turmeric elixir, iced tea with floral waters, and cold brew. I’ve been known to ferment all kinds of things on top of my fridge. I plan on re-embarking on kombucha brewing as soon as this heat spell is over. Plus, there’s always a new batch of bitters in some stage of coming to be.
Aromas.
Most mornings I pick out a combination on essential oils that I place in my diffuser. I’ve been using essential oils for years for beauty and mood balancing. Some favorites are lemon, geranium, lavender, German chamomile, and peppermint. Lately I’ve been mixing up my own cleaning products for my home and scenting them too.
