3 food blogs i read religiously

July 22, 2013

I’m endlessly fascinated by what people eat. And when they eat. And where they eat (i.e. kitchen table, work, subway). Not to get too psychoanalytical, but I think a peek at someone’s food diary is a (pretty telling) peek at someone’s personality. Do you love cooking at home or is your stove a mysterious, never-used contraption? Do you frequent the same spot because you crave familiarity or is visiting new restaurants how you get your kicks? Do you take your coffee the same way every day? Or do you think coffee is a heathen beverage akin to crack in a cup?

I read dozens of blogs each week, but there are three in particular I read religiously. Naturally they all feed my stalker-like obsession. Get to know ’em after the jump:

New York Magazine‘s New York Diet. This was the one that started it all for me. Actors, musicians, writers, politicians, chefs and others share the most meticulous run-downs of their daily intake of a few days. They’re often funny, sometimes frustrating (can you really eat just a Lara Bar for breakfast?) and almost always hunger-inducing. It’s also an interesting look at how schedules and eating habits vary by profession.

So, How Was Your Day? This relatively new-to-me tumblr based in Chicago chronicles the minutia of creative types. There’s a basic rundown of the day’s meals followed by a more detailed recap of the day’s events. To be honest, I don’t care much for the events recap, but I do love the three follow-up questions SHWYD’s  Jessica Murnane asks her subjects. I also love how everyone featured is pictured in bed.

my morning routine by Bon Appetit. Every two weeks, the foodie mag asks bold-face names what they eat and do to kick-start their days. Despite its upper crust food credentials, there seem to be fewer chefs and restauranteurs and more surprising guests like model Karlie Kloss, Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne and porn star James Deen. To go along with the entry, Matt Duckor makes a cute chalkboard illustration depicting the meal.

Have you read any of these? Do I need to add more stalker blogs to my list of three?
