2.5 days in singapore

December 11, 2013

We spent most of our short time in Singapore visiting family friends, but I did manage to sneak away for a half day to explore areas beyond the ‘burbs and luxury malls. I knew I wanted to accomplish two things: eat from a famous hawker stall and find a unique place to do some people watching and window shopping. Here’s a little photo diary from the excursion:

Singapore’s Chinatown. It blew my mind to see things we bought in Burma and Laos for just a few dollars being sold here for upwards of $30!

There are so many “hawker” stalls in Singapore. They’re basically large food court-style eateries with dozens of options. I found myself at Maxwell Food Centre and was in search of “chicken and rice,” the famous Singaporean hawker food. Unfortunately I wasn’t that impressed with a plate of rice and bland boiled chicken, but the hot sauce was pretty delicious. If I had more time, I could’ve done some serious damage here.

I’ve missed Asian fruit shake stands! I got a manga-strawberry smoothie.

Haji Lane is a narrow lane of indie shops and boutiques near the Middle Eastern area of the city. Loved the cool decor scheme in each shop and the chill vibe of this whole area. Highly recommended.
